Win it Wednesday: A copy of A Rather Charming Invitation by C.A. Belmond

Win it Wednesday on Stuff to Love

Welcome to Win it Wednesday!

Wednesday has been declared Win it Wednesday here at Stuff to Love. We will now have a giveaway every week. It will start on Wednesday and end the following Tuesday at midnight PST. The winner will be announced the following day. You never know what we might be offering up. There are lots of opportunities to enter, so check back often. Make sure to follow us on twitter, or be our fan on Facebook so you never miss a giveaway.

A Rather Charming Invitation by C. A. Belmond is the 3rd book in a series about a mystery solver/heiress named Penny and her fiancee, Jeremy.  I was initially wary of doing this review, as I haven’t read the first 2 books in this series and alot of times coming into a series midway through leaves you hanging.  I do like a bit of light, fluffy reading every now and then though, so I went ahead!

The history of the previous 2 books wasn’t really recapped much in this story, there were vague references to previous events throughout, which left me feeling like I needed to go back and read the other 2 books.  The story was a bit slow to start off with, but after the first few chapters I found myself not wanting to put the book down.

This story is a mystery woven into Penny’s family history like the tapestry that is at the root of the plot.  Penny and Jeremy travel to France to meet that side of her family, and while there they are offered a family heirloom to use for their wedding-an immense woven wedding tapestry.  I won’t ruin the story for you, you’ll have to read the book yourself to find out the mystery of the tapestry.

This book is set in Europe-based in England, with visits all over France and such.  The imagery the author paints of everything from the landscapes to home interiors, etc. is a feast for the imagination.  She does an excellent job of giving details so you can truly immerse yourself in the story, imagining the goings on as if you are watching from the corner. I’m a sucker for imagery like that!

Throughout the story, you learn about Penny being skittish about getting married, mainly because she believes that marriage should be a lifelong union of joy (but not without it’s challenges of course!).  She is told constantly by friends, relatives and even strangers about how the fun and love goes out of a marriage over time which is very discouraging.

To find out more, you’ll have to get your own copy, I really think you’ll enjoy it if you like a light story and mystery.  I really liked that this book had none of the violent or sexual undertones/scenes that are so prevalent in current popular literature.

My favorite genre is mystery–the type I believe that is called cozies—light mysteries without a lot of violence—often with female sleuths.
